What is counseling?
Counseling helps individuals work through and resolve problems in their lives and in their relationships. It focuses on a persons’ feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and past experiences and how they may be contributing to the problem or conflict they are facing today.
What happens during a
counseling session?
The counseling process involves helping people make needed changes in ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. I work with clients in a non- judgmental, collaborative, and supportive manner as they discuss the reasons why they are seeking counseling and what they would like to get out of the process. Together we set viable goals, and develop strategies and plans necessary for the client to accomplish these goals. The counseling process also helps clients clarify situations and discuss problems openly while feeling safe, understood, cared for, and empowered.

I received my counseling education from Moravian Theological Seminary. The education and training that I received provided me with a rich combination of professional and spiritual formation. Not only did it give me knowledge and experiences to be an effective counselor from a clinical perspective, but also integrated the insights and practices of diverse spiritual perspectives. While, I may not discuss spiritual matters with all clients, I believe these perspectives, combined with the unique strengths, needs, and points of view of each client provide a foundation for a meaningful experience with the clients that I work with.
I take a client-centered approach when working with clients. The therapeutic techniques and treatment modalities that I use are dependent upon each client’s individual needs. Examples of clinical approaches that I use include but are not limited to:
